What Is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a gentle non-intrusive treatment. It is based on the principle that there are specific areas and points on the feet, face and hands that replicate corresponding parts of the body.

In the human foot, there are over seven thousand nerve endings: each one having a reflex point that corresponds to a specific part of the body. Reflexology therapy is the application of expert pressure to these areas and points, which stimulates the movement of energy along nerve channels, which can detect those reflexes that are out of balance. Encouraging the body’s own natural ability to heal itself, helps to restore homeostasis (balance) within the whole body.

Many GP practices and Hospices now recognise Reflexology, and it is practiced regularly in the NHS.

Although a reflexologist will use diagnostic skills to assess and evaluate their findings, they will not diagnose any medical condition. Reflexology does not claim to cure or prescribe.

How can Reflexology help you?

By the application of varying pressure to the reflex areas of the feet, face, or hands, Reflexology can stimulate the body’s own healing processes to help restore balance (homeostasis). As a holistic therapy, Reflexology aims to treat the individual as a whole and not just the physical symptoms, but also emotional wellbeing, social circumstances etc. which helps to enable restoring balance to both mind and body.
